My Students

It's a law of nature: all students, especially STEAM students (science, technology, engineering, art, and math), love to explore science technology on Kindle Fire tablets. This computer project aims to replace outdated Kindle Fire tablets with new, up-to-date models. Behold: the Kindle Fire Fanfare 2019 project!

Our budding scientists, from kindergarten to fifth grade, love the versatile and safe inquiries possible with Kindle Fire tablets.

Students gather data using the Google Science Journal app, or become a rhino beetle, fire ant, or wolf using an animal simulation. For each of the 442 students who attend our science laboratory classes each week, there is never any idle down-time. Do we have five spare minutes?; then we explore the Periodic Table, create a gravity simulation, or animate a piece of original, digital artwork. Students always utilize the digital photography and movie-making options when documenting their innovative ideas. This technology has never been more versatile for exploring STEAM applications, physical science, or life science. Best of all, these Kindle tablets satisfy the STEAM requirement of student collaboration. Whew!

Do I think these Kindle tablets are essential for STEAM students? You bet!

My Project

This project is vital, especially since these Kindle Fire tablets are the only computers that are available to our science laboratory students during inquiries. Unlike literacy and mathematics classrooms that have banks of personal computers, enough for each student, our science lab teams share one Kindle. When these Kindles are on the fritz, science inquiries cease.

Dollar-for-dollar, these new Kindle tablets will pull the weight of a full personal computer.

Even better than personal computers, Kindles fit the hands of smaller scientists, when photographing, measuring, or wirelessly controlling robots is necessary. Best of all, these tablet models are similar to what young scientists already use at home. What a win-win!
