My students need access to technology. The Kindle Fire tablets and cases will allow them to download books at their reading level and use many educational apps.
Each day in my classroom my students are working hard to improve their reading, writing, math, social studies and science skills. My goal is to help them grow more than the expected one full school year. I need up-to-date technology to help me achieve this goal.
My Ohio students are 3rd graders at an inner city public school in Cleveland.
These third graders are very eager to learn to use technology to be top notch students. My scholars are actively engaged in learning all day. They are eager to use technology and to learn all they can in school.
Most of my students do not have web access or technology at home so they do not have the ability to download high interest books at their level or to use the wide variety of quality learning apps that exist today. Our school is trying to expose our students to things that will help them to be all that they can be in this world. With this grant children in my classroom will be exposed to a world of tablets, Internet and apps that they are not able to experience in their every day lives.
My Project
A fire will be lit for learning in my students when our new Kindle Fire Tablets arrive in our classroom! These tablets will open up a wide world of learning for my third graders. The students will be able to load exciting books that are on their level and experience a wide variety of apps that will help them discover many new and exciting things. We will utilize apps such as Kids A-Z, Math practice Flash Cards, Times Tables, Concentration Spelling City and My Spelling Test. I will be able to provide critical practice for more of my students at one time with these tablets. I have a large class and it is difficult to rotate the children through the classroom computers. They will be very engaged in every activity they do on the Kindle Fire tablets.
This project will have a HUGE impact on my students.
Third grade is a critical year in Ohio for students. If they do not meet the score requirements for the Ohio Third Grade Guarantee they will automatically be retained. These tablets will ignite an eagerness to learn and engage them with a variety of subjects in a colorful and exciting way. It is hard to find activities that the students are eager to participate in. This technology will provide the Hook and my students will soar to 4th grade.
