Kinders Want to Become Better Readers!

My students need Magic Boards and practice cards, a Sight Word Playing Cards Tub, incentive stickers and a Vocab Match-Up Game to become better readers.

My Students

I love this quote by the Author Rick Riordan: "My goal in the classroom was always to make sure they were having so much fun that they didn't realize they were learning."

I teach at an elementary school located in an extremely low-income area.

The families and students who attend are English Language Learners, some of whom are newly arrived. I truly love teaching at my school. The students are sweet and hardworking. Since their English language is so limited, they struggle with reading and vocabulary. Often their parents are learning English too, alongside their children, so they do not have the language to help at home. I need to supply them with hands-on activities that incorporate a lot of photos and pictures for better understanding. I know that my students can be successful but I need the right tools for them.

My Project

I have found several centers from Lakeshore that I think would be perfect for my students. All of them are hands-on activities, such as the Snap Together Letter Blocks and Vocabulary Match Up Games. With these materials, my students will work on building sight words as well as other words they are interested in. With the Vocabulary Match Up game, my students will understand antonyms, homonyms and synonyms. This will allow them the chance to have a deeper understand of the English language.

These activities will give my students the hands-on materials that they need to succeed.

These games will provide baby steps for my children to learn how to read in a fun way. My wish is that all of my students will have so much fun that they will forget that they are learning. Please donate to our project! Thank you!
