My Students
My kinders are a diverse group of learners. About half of my students come from military families and have experienced many different schools. Many others fall in the lower socioeconomic stratosphere. Some of these students do not have access to technology at home and would benefit from exposure at school. I would like for my kinders to see our classroom as an engaging and welcoming place of learning.
Our school community does a wonderful job of supporting all of our students where they are.
We have a supportive Parent Teacher Organization and Administration. This wonderful community allows my kinders to come to school healthy, happy and safe ready to learn.
My Project
Students are inundated with technology in their lives. However, quite soon, they will rely on these technologies more than most of us can imagine. Allowing them to become comfortable with the coding and design of technology at a young age, puts them in the driver's seat.
I'm requesting two Amazon Fire tablets with Osmo Genius kits which will provide more options during our "hour of code" each week.
During this time, students engage code with multiple options including robots, computers, manipulatives and a favorite, the Osmo. The Osmo provides many different ways to code. While the students feel like they are playing engaging games, they are actually learning how to code and learning math and science at the same time. They may also use the Amazon Fire tablets and Osmo kits during small group centers in Math and Reading. The Osmo provides activities with numbers, shapes, letters, words and more to provide engaging one-on-one learning.
