Kinders Learn with Technology

My Students

Do you remember the thrill of getting a new piece of technology in your hands? The wonder and amazement that came bubbling up from somewhere deep inside? My kindergarteners share that excitement and their faces light up with each new opportunity.

My students come from a lower socio-economic area and many do not enjoy the same opportunities as their peers in other areas.

Many have little or no experience with technology with the exception of their parents' phones. That taste of technology has made my students ready, willing, and able to benefit from tablets and computers.

My Project

For part of the day my students work in groups of four in various centers while I work with individual students. They need two iPads to use with partners during these times. Research has shown that children learn in various ways. We have many resources for practicing math and literacy skills but the addition of the iPads will be a powerful tool for engaging student learning and promoting social skills. The iPads will bring the entire world to their fingertips. Many of the apps have different levels of interaction to accommodate the varying needs and abilities of my young learners. The $100 iTunes gift card will allow me to load the iPads with appropriate learning apps and to add new apps as they become available. The apps allow the children to see things they have never seen before, to interact with stories and characters, to practice writing letters, and to count objects and match numbers. Most provide this practice in very colorful, musical, and fun ways.

These young students are the hope of tomorrow and their future success and life contributions will be greatly enhanced by their understanding and use of technology for both work and pleasure!
