Kinders Can Learn to Read & Write in Centers!

My students need headphones and white boards to support their reading and writing skills during small group instruction.

My Students

The diverse backgrounds of my students make teaching one curriculum difficult. By providing small group instruction, my students have differentiated instruction which provides meaningful and purposeful language and literacy activities to support their speaking, reading, and writing development.

Even though we are a Title I school and my students enter kindergarten with many disadvantages, they are eager to learn.

If I can provide the tools to help my students to be organized and keep routines consistent, these students are able to be independent and are on their way to becoming lifelong learners.

My Project

Learning centers help students to learn at their own pace. It gives them a chance to work independently, in pairs or in small groups.

My students need supplies and materials that will provide them the opportunities to learn in different ways.

My students will use headphones in our iPad center. The headphones will help them to listen to stories, learn the alphabet and sounds. It will help them to work on math problems such as counting, adding or subtracting. I ask for headphones to be brought from home, but many students are not able to bring their own.

The white boards will help students to use different writing tools as they read and write. Students can draw on the blank side to show their understanding of vocabulary or just to be creative as they tell a story. They can use the lined side to practice writing letters, words or sentences.

In order for my centers to be successful and for students to be independent learners, they need to have the tools to help them to learn.
