Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I kindly ask for educational poppers that will be used in the classroom to teach phonics.
Imagine a classroom where students are breaking down a word sounds by sound and popping out the sounds.
In kindergarten, we are learning to segment and blend simple words by listening to all the sounds in the world. We usually variously teach this, but now we have a shift where students need to make connections
Having the large poppers, for each student, as we are learning how to sound out words, they are popping that sound with me. For example, with the word cat. The first pop is the /c/ sound, the second popper is the /a/ sound and the last popper is the /t/ sound. The class is popping each sound and saying it. How cool is that? What is even cooler is that they will think that they are playing, when in fact, they will be learning. That is why I had 5 sets of the big boppers. We need enough for the whole class to have and least 3 and then 4 or 5 poppers for this kind of phonics work
I am also asking for various CVCC and CVCE materials such as magnets, flip charts, and games, that will be used first in whole-class instruction and then as centers. Each student will have a popper to pop on the sounds that go with the pictures. After they pop the sounds, they will be able to write the words. This is a multi-sensory approach to how my littles are learning to read.
