Our days are filled learning how to ask questions and discovering different ways to find answers. Success is measured by students leaving kindergarten with the confidence to be researchers and innovators. I teach my students our efforts today impact our choices in our tomorrows (anonymous).
The students at our urban school come from low-income families who struggle to give their children the necessities.
My kindergartners come to school with a wide range of exposure to the world outside their front door. Some have had excellent early childhood experiences with a great deal of support in a nurturing environment while others have not had that benefit. Our school tries to fill the gap with our staff, parent and community volunteers, and donations.
My Project
Students will use the Let's Find Out + Science Spin magazines in class to support the curriculum. They will take the magazines home to share with their parents creating a bridge between home and school. Students will create individual projects based upon the topics in the magazines that they choose for further research.
Students will complete research projects with the magazines as a starting point giving them a broader range of ideas to chose from.
The magazines will lead them to ask more questions and want to discover more answers.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
