My students need activity mats, hopping sacks, a ring toss game, a bean bag activity center and balance boards.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class of 23 diverse, urban kindergarten students live below the poverty line, and are predominately English language learners who have not attended preschool. Most of them will be four years old when they begin kindergarten.
Since many of my students are younger than their private school counterparts or public school contemporaries in states that have a higher kindergarten entry age, many of them struggle with our district's rigorous kindergarten writing program.
I was recently discussing this dilemma with a friend who is an occupational therapist. She told me that in order for kids to develop the fine motor skills necessary for writing they must first develop the gross motor skills necessary for balance and coordination activities. I am writing this grant for a variety of balance activities, coordination equipment and physical challenges that will help my students develop gross motor skills in a fun and engaging way.
Please help me prepare my students to write by making sure that their gross motor skills have a chance to develop to their full potential. Kindergarten is the age window that will enable appropriate development for a lifetime of learning. You can make this difference in the lives of my students!
