This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As an inner city kindergarten teacher, part of my education mission is to help bridge the digital divide starting from day 1 of my students' educational journey.
Each one of my 22 kindergarten students walks to school every day-- past the homeless, drug dealers, and street walkers that comprise the neighborhood surrounding our school-- the neighborhood they call home.
Most of their parents report that there are not books or technology of any kind available for children to access in their homes. Many of families do not speak English and are unable to assist students with academic activities.
My Project
iPads engage students in learning vital academic skills as well as teaching technological literacy. Eventually, I hope to eventually obtain 3 iPad2s for daily use in my kindergarten classroom. This grant is for one iPad2 for my students. I plan to download apps that are available from mandated curricula as well as other skill boosting and engaging activities. The iPad2s will be wonderful tools for differentiating learning and challenging students at their individual learning levels as well as promoting team work through activities where students can work in pairs.
Tools that encourage learning motivation and build tech savvy in students that are on the disadvantaged side of the digital divide can make an enormous difference in educational success.
You can help my kindergartners succeed and flourish from their very first day of school and provide them with the keys that will open doors leading to their college graduation.
