This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a Title I charter school serving a diverse range of students in fully inclusive classrooms.

Our school focuses on Project Based Learning with a real-world connection.

A high percentage of our students come from homes where English is a second language. We have a high percentage of students who receive free and reduced-price lunch. Our teachers design projects that go across multiple content areas. Projects are designed to allow for collaboration, critique and revision. We believe students are engaged in learning when their voices and choices are respected.

My Project

Our newest students are just 5 years old. They come to school so excited to start kindergarten: they will learn so much and make new friends.

Kindergarteners can make new friends through collaborative art.

The special large-size Friendly Loom is big enough to allow up to six kindergarteners to weave simultaneously.

Students will choose their colorful yarns and ribbons, and work together to make a beautiful weaving.

The collaborative weaving process builds both social skills and fine-motor skills - skills students need for success in kindergarten. Students will also learn patience and perseverance as they work together to complete their weavings.
