Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
One great way to make a student's face light up is to present him or her with a turn at the classroom computer. I would like to increase the smiles and rigor in my kindergarten classroom by adding a tablet to our technology center.
I have an energetic group of kindergarten students with a fascination for technology.
They love every experience they are presented with, whether it involves listening to audiobooks, borrowing a parent's iPhone, or even taking a test on a laptop!
Our Illinois school is Title I, with 63% of students coming from low income families, and 16% being English Language Learners. Some students do not have computers and/or Internet access at home; thus, experience with these tools at school is absolutely essential to building 21st century skills.
My Project
The possibilities are endless when it comes to using tablets in the primary classroom. For example, students can build background knowledge while viewing videos and photographs relating to our current science and social studies topics. Additionally, a variety of apps allow students to see math concepts come alive, build phonemic awareness while sorting pictures and sounds, and even write, illustrate, and add sound to their own stories! Having a tablet in the classroom will give students daily opportunities to learn in new and exciting ways while engaging in technology.
Providing students with rich, varied opportunities to interact with media is essential in preparing them for success in our technology-driven society.
With your support, my kindergarten students will be ready for whatever the future holds!
