My Students

How much chart paper does a kindergarten class use? Lots! And we never seem to have enough!

My students are five and six year olds coming to school for the very first time.

They come into the classroom so excited or a little scared to begin their school career. Our school is located in central Florida. We are a Title 1 school which means we have a high population of families that qualify for the Free/Reduced Federal Food Program. Our school has dedicated teachers and support staff that really try to do what is best for our children.

My Project

Every morning we have a Chit Chat Morning Message. As a group, we go through all the important information for the day. In reading, the class focuses on the letter of the day or the skill of the day. In math, we focus on the skill of the day. Then there are the review days when we review skills in reading, math, social studies, and science. Chart paper is used every day in several ways so we need a lot of chart paper. Kindergarteners need to be able to see what the teacher is talking about and many children are visual learners. In class we also do a lot of thinking maps. Thinking maps have changed how I present material to the children and the children begin using them on their own by the end of the year. Circle maps are used for alphabet letters and numbers. Bridge maps are used to show relationships. Tree maps are used to make sentences. These maps are an integral part of our day. Flow Maps sequence story events from beginning to end.

The chart tablets will be used for morning messages and to present skills and content to the children.

The chart paper with the adhesive will be used for displaying all the thinking maps in the classroom.
