Kindergarten Students Need to Socialize Through Play!

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income school district, I see that my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. We spend a big part of the day together, and one of my goals is to always provide them with authentic, meaningful experiences on a daily basis.

My students are inquisitive, curious, and very eager to learn.

They love to learn about new things and especially love hands-on activities. Many of my students are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Unfortunately, some of these things may prevent them from acquiring the life experiences many of us see as "typical”. From the minute they walk into my classroom, my job is to not only teach them but to make their day a memorable one. I want them to leave my class on a daily basis thinking learning is fun!

My Project

The Kindergarten demands have changed so much throughout the last couple of years. There is really no time for socializing and playing anymore but as a teacher of 25 years, my experience has been that children learn best when they have time to play and socialize at some point during the day.

Having these resources in my room will help these awesome things happen, especially after the last 2 years when children did not have the opportunity to play and socialize with other kids.

The items that I am asking for, would specifically help the children build their creative skills while developing their imagination, dexterity, cognitive and emotional strength. Playing is so important for healthy brain development. After 2 years of being home during our pandemic, these amazing children would benefit by playing with these toys and building materials because it is through play that they engage and interact in the world around them.
