This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school has been closed since early March. We have been distance teaching daily to our students via Google Classroom. My students are second language learners from socio-economic households. The majority of their parents have little to nonexistence tech skills.
Every day my students attend our online meetings excited to see what they will be learning.
Our students love school; they love to learn and are eager to learn.
We rely solely on donations and grants for classroom supplies and materials. Asking our families to help with fundraisers is out of the question. Since COVID-19 I have been purchasing resources for my students to use online or applying for free app donations.
My Project
I've always considered myself to be tech-savvy, but when I found myself having to teach remotely, I was in a whole new world. After many long days and nights. I quickly learned my way around GAFE (Google Apps for Education; this is what our district uses.
Although I feel like a pro now each day sharing my screens with my students, setting up assignments, and such, what I am lacking in is a curriculum to use.
I have purchased several sets of items through Teachers Pay Teachers to use with my students, but I already know that distance learning will continue as we move into the next school year. I do not have the resources I need for the beginning of the year. Nor do I have the funds I need for these resources.
Having a Teachers Pay Teachers gift card would give me the opportunity to purchase the necessary Google Slides I need to start the school year off. Not only will these slides be great for distance learning, but when we return to traditional schooling, they will still be applicable.
