Kindergarten Readiness: Ipad for Imagination

My students need an Apple iPad to expose them to technology and assist them in early literacy and numeracy development.

My Students

"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it's not." My goal as a Pre-k educator is to provide students a rigorous curriculum in a loving environment to ensure they enter kindergarten with the skills and assets they need to succeed in school and later in life.

I have 19 four and five year old students in my Pre-kindergarten class.

They are so funny, so interested in learning, so attentive and love being at school. We are a very low performing charter school in Louisiana and currently under jurisdiction of the state. With little resources, our school in successfully being re-vamped and our students are students are making great achievements each day. I see great importance in making sure my students are equipped with the tools and knowledge they need to enter kindergarten on level and ready to make great advances in their schooling. Children who enter kindergarten below level have little to no chance of ever catching up and most will fall greatly behind within a couple of years. I take personal responsibility in ensuring that my students will not be a part of this cycle and will do whatever it takes to get these bright- eyed babies where they deserve to be when entering kindergarten.

My Project

My bright eyed babies love to learn. Our classroom is bright and colorful. Even at 4 years old, I have taught them to take pride in their work. By using the educational applications on the ipad, my preschoolers will be able to develop literacy and numeracy fluency skills and skills for problem solving. The programs available on the ipad offer amazing hand-eye coordination practice and aides in development of fine and gross motor skills. The aps on the ipad also help the students to set their own goals and track their progress in attaining these goals. I believe allowing students at an early age the opportunity feel pride in reaching their own personal goals is very important for their character development and will help drive them later during their educational journey.

Students who enter kindergarten behind will more than likely struggle and remain behind for the rest of their schooling journey.

It is imperative that these children receive the opportunity to build the foundational social, emotional, and academic skills needed to allow them to succeed in school and later in life.
