Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

It is priceless to see kindergarten students' faces light up when they see something new. "Oohs and Awwws" linger through the classroom as they encounter a new learning experience. The scholastic subscriptions will fill my students' days with new concepts and inquiries.

My students are new comers from another country and struggling readers that come to the learning center on a daily basis to receive extra support in language development, reading and math.

They enjoy read-alouds and shared readings where they are able to engage in rich discussions that lead towards making connection, partner sharing, retelling stories or sharing newly learned knowledge with their peers through different collaborative groupings.

My Project

Having the Scholastic's magazine "Let's Find Out, Kindergarten" Subscriptions, non-fiction reading, will allow me to develop more complex thinking among all my students. The visuals along with the text will engage all learners through collaborative talk/discussions about connections between what they are reading and events in the news, if applicable.

The reading of nonfiction scholastic magazines will help my students develop information literacy.

This is a much needed skill in modern society where students can no longer memorize everything in school that they will need to know as adults. Instead, they must develop the skills to locate, evaluate, and use information.
