This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am privileged to teach 21 kindergarten students.

They are eager and excited to learn. My students attend a large public school and come from low income households. All the students at the school receive free lunch and also qualify for free after school programs. Most of my students are learning English as a second language and are attending school for the first time. They don't have many opportunities to participate in academically enriching activities outside of my classroom.

My Project

I want to provide my students with a variety resources for our class centers. Some of the resources we need are Phonemic Awareness Boxes that feature manipulatives and activity mats that focus on beginning sounds. The Alphabet Puzzles will help children build letter recognition with a ready-to-use activity center they can explore on their own! The math game Count and Link will improve students' number recognition and counting skills. The resources are designed for independent exploration and small groups instruction. The Help Yourself Marker Center is a great way to organized the writing supplies for the writing center. Providing my students with better resources will help them come to love school and love reading. We are also requesting rechargeable batteries and a charger that will be used to keep our TAG Reader listening center operating. Finally, we would love to have a butterfly pavilion for our science center during our study of life cycles.

The materials will be able to be used for many years to assist many students that come into my classroom. Each child will become a more confident and successful student because of the opportunities given to them to use the materials provided by you, the donor.
