My students need a complete listening center with a cd player and activities. This will be used throughout the year; first building skills, then reading along with trade books to improve comprehension.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a class with diverse needs and the listening center can easily be modified towards what they need to work on. Students love the calmness of this center and it is very engaging.
My kindergarten class is in an urban district.
This is an inclusion classroom with general education, special education and English language learner students. Unlike many kindergarten classrooms, there is no paraprofessional assigned to the class. Even in our short time together we have bonded and become a family. We work through the challenges and have lots of fun while learning.
My Project
I used to have a very old tape player listening center, which broke this year. The students are disappointed and miss this center. The center I am requesting includes sturdy headphones and a CD player made for children and difficult to break. The CD packs I have requested include wipe-off materials with markers that can be used again and again without having to tax our overwhelmed copy machine. I like how this center includes materials that help build the skills of early readers. I can check audio books out of the library to accompany this center that will help build their comprehension, but I have never seen the early literacy activities at the library, making this unique and non-reproducible.
Unfortunatley there is not a lot of money in the district and have bought thousands of dollars worth of materials for my classroom, but we are still lacking.
