My Students
I teach Kindergarten at a low-income school in a Los Angeles neighborhood called Echo Park, and we have started the school year with all instruction being delivered remotely. Despite these challenging times, my students are on Zoom daily, eager to participate, and establish lifelong learning habits.
As their teacher, I am continuously thinking of ways to ensure that my students' learning is rigorous and engaging.
However, many of my students come from low socio-economic backgrounds, and so they do not have all the learning materials that would allow them to fully interact with the daily lessons.
My Project
My goal is for each student to have a double-sided dry-erase board, dry erase markers, and counting blocks to allow them to have a more interactive role in their learning. The lined side of the dry-erase board will allow them to practice fine motor skills as they learn number, letter, and word formation. Additionally, the counting cubes will allow them to take on a multi-modal approach to their math learning, being able to see and physically manipulate the cubes as they learn to count and solve problems.
With your help, my Kindergarten students will be better able to engage in our lessons and overcome the challenges of distance learning.
