Kindergarten is Where It all Begins

My students need an iPad mini and the case to keep it safe.

My Students

There are 541 students in Thomas Holme School. Our kindergarten classes are full to the maximum of 30 students. Students are added to my class that have Special needs for ELA time, bringing my class size to 33. All of our students are economically disadvantaged. The school provides them with breakfast and lunch daily.

Many of these five year old students have not been introduced to letters or numbers.

Students need individual attention. I separate the students into groups and work with small groups at a time, during ELA. During this time, the other students are given puzzles and centers to keep them working. We would benefit from iPad minis in our class to use at center time.

This school year we will be completing research projects. I would love to teach the children how to find research on the iPad minis. We will be researching animals and their habitats. We will follow our research with a trip to the Philadelphia Zoo. The students need to see how computers are a valuable piece of learning. Most students just think computers are for games, they need to experience research and learning with the iPad.

My Project

The students in my class will greatly benefit from a tablet in the classroom. We have one very slow moving computer that often freezes.

Students today, need access to technology.

This is the world we live in. The children respond and learn from the technology.

Having this type of technology in the classroom would allow the students to learn independently. This in turn will allow me time to individualize the education for each student. When I work with small groups the students work in centers. Having more technology in the class would build an additional center.

I want them to be able to access literacy and math games during center time. Please help the future!
