My students need eight hokki stools, an exersongs CD, and an egg & spoon race game in order to be active at least 60 minutes of their day.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students hail from a neighborhood on Chicago's south side. 98% of our student population receives free or reduced lunch and several of our students' families face great financial hardships. For many of my students, school is a safe haven in their poverty-stricken and violence-ridden neighborhood.
Despite the challenges they face, my students come to school eager to learn something new.
However, due to a limited budget, our resources are very scarce. While we try our best to work with what we have, my students need resources that will improve their learning experience.
My Project
Anyone who knows a kindergarten student, knows how important movement is for them. Unfortunately, having the wrong seats can result in bodily injury, due to the fact that students like to wiggle around while they sit. Last year, many of my students fell out of their chairs as they tried to stretch in them, because they simply were not sturdy. While I tried to remind them to be careful, they constantly asked me, "Why can't we have different seats if these are so dangerous?", to which I would always reply, "These are the chairs we were given". They saw the importance in having safer seats and when asked at the end of the year what I should change about our class for incoming kindergartners, most students coincided that we needed to change our furniture and be able to move more!
Physical activity is an essential part of everyone's lives, however, many children are not getting in enough exercise to make a significant impact on their health.
Hokki stools would allow my students to get their wiggles out while they work, keeping their bodies and minds actively engaged. The egg & spoon race game and exersongs CD I am requesting will provide additional opportunities for my students to get up and move throughout the day.
The sooner we stress the importance of nutrition and exercise, the easier it will be for our children to follow that routine into adulthood.
