Kindergarten Engineers

My students need these STEM activity kits to incorporate science, math and engineering into our daily activities.

My Students

"Play is the highest form of research." Albert Einstein. My kindergarten students are active and engaged learners. They love to be involved in projects that further their learning in all areas. My goal is for them to see themselves as readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists and engineers.

My classroom is a happy, busy place.

Every child in our school receives free breakfast and lunch. Many do not have access to extra materials, especially in the area of science, outside of the classroom environment. Over the last few years, standards have really changed for kindergarten students. I remain committed to implementing these standards in developmentally appropriate ways. Working together to solve real world problems is the best way for that to happen. Recently, I overheard one of my students say "We love science!" That is my goal.

My Project

Our district has not been able to update our science materials in years and what we have does not reflect current initiatives with STEM learning. These materials (STEM Science Stations and STEM Early Learning Kits) will allow my students to participate in activities that will integrate STEM into our classroom. In addition, they are based on some well-loved children's literature, which makes the activities cross all academic areas. They are fun and engaging, so the kids will use them, and learn while they are playing. What better way to develop a kindergarten engineer than by designing and building a strong bridge for the 3 Billy Goats Gruff (Fairy Tales Problem Solving STEM Kit)?

These materials will bring our classroom up-to-date.

Students will learn as they work together to solve problems. They will be exposed to new ideas, and will be able to test out their own theories. They will be developing skills that they will use for the rest of their lives.
