Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

The Dramatic Play Center is one of the most important areas of a kindergarten classroom. Children use Fantasy Play as a way of making sense of the world around them. They play out activities they see at home, at school, or around their neighborhoods. Every academic subject is touched upon through the countless scenes and scenarios the children think up. For example, children may pretend they are running a restaurant. They practice literacy skills as they read and write menus, they engage in mathematical equations as they charge each other money and make change, and they make scientific connections such as heating water to make it boil, as they cook spaghetti. Activities in the dramatic play area also lend themselves to the practice of social skills such as negotiation, cooperation, and sharing. The dramatic play area provides advantages for all the children in our collaborative classroom, especially those children with diverse needs. Children with speech delays can practice their language skills with peers, children who have trouble learning their letters may be seen teaching the alphabet to a pretend class of their peers, and children who are having a difficult time adjusting to school may act out their fears with the baby dolls. Our dramatic play furniture and materials are old, broken, and present a safety hazard. I am asking for a complete dramatic play area, which includes a refrigerator, oven, stove, sink, microwave, and storage cabinet. I am also asking for a butcher block table and chairs, pots and pans, and play food. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my proposal!
