Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine being faced with the task of entering Kindergarten, and you don't speak any English!
My students attend an inner city school with almost 100 percent free and reduced lunch as well as a large population of ELL students, or students who don't speak English as their first language.
In most cases my Kindergarten students come to school knowing little to no English.
My Project
The materials that I have requested are to create a listening center in which my students can hear the English Language and follow along as the books are read to them during guided reading. I have requested several listening center book sets, a cd player, and materials (bags and a rack to hang the books on) to organized and store the items being requested. This will help build their language, vocabulary, and their reading abilities.
These materials will help my students build their language skills and vocabulary, which research shows is one of the most important indicators of success in a child's life.
Give them the ability to speak and a large vocabulary and there is nothing that will hold my Kindergartners back!
