This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are a diverse group of kindergartners who are full of energy, inquisitiveness, and creativity. They are eager to come to school each day ready to tackle new challenges. We embrace having a growth mindset in my class, approaching each task with an attitude of optimism, flexibility, persistence, and resilience.

While more than 50% of my students speak English as a second language and/or receive free/reduced-priced lunch, we don’t let anything get in the way of embracing our differences and working together to overcome challenges.

5-year-old children have BIG emotions about A LOT of things! These resources will help them to be more self-aware, emotionally regulated, empathetic, and confident. This will help them not only in the classroom but outside the classroom as well.

There have been hundreds of independent studies about the effects of explicit SEL instruction. All the research shows that students who receive SEL instruction benefit from an increase in academic performance, but also an increase in positive behaviors like kindness, sharing, and empathy. Many of my students face considerable challenges at home and in school. Learning how to emotionally rise above these challenges in a positive way is critical to their academic, social, and emotional success.
