Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I teach kindergarten in an inner city in Flint, Michigan. The majority of our students come to us below grade level and have little academic support at home due to the life circumstances of their parents. Our students are eager to learn but need a lot of additional support in all subject areas in order for them to be successful in their future endeavors. Your donations to our projects help us to make that happen for the students that we are blessed to service.

My Project

This program will help with assessment and gathering data about students to form groups and target instruction. This program will allow students to take assessments created by me or already a part of ESGI on our computers or Ipad that we have in the classroom. It helps students to get away from lengthy pencil and paper assessments and makes assessing more fun and engaging to help the students be more focused and bring an element of fun to testing. This program will help students to grow in both reading and math by giving me targeted information on each student so that I can differentiate instruction and focus teaching on needs to build strengths in each student. This will benefit the students as lessons will be focused on meeting their individual needs. This will help the students to become more proficient readers and mathematicians. The ESGI software will cut back on the time it takes to give weekly one on one assessments. Because of this it will free up more time for instruction which will help my students as most of them come in below grade level. Not only will this program shorten assessment time the program creates reports for teachers that can be used to quickly group students based on need for support in areas where they may struggle. The program also can be used to create a parent report to show what the student has mastered and still needs support with. The program also allows you to print support materials such as flashcards for needed areas for each individual student that can be sent home to help the parents support the children, name tracers, and name cards for student use.
