Kindergarten: A Place for Everyone!

My students need a carpet where everyone has their own space. This eliminates fighting over who gets to sit up front and also makes partnering up much easier.

My Students

A typical day in my Kindergarten class involves a lot of talking, movement, and laughter. As a huge fan of whole brain teaching, my students are encouraged to talk all day long! With repetition, silly gestures, and partner collaboration, my kids are learning and don't even know it!

I teach 30 amazing Kindergarten students.

They are the perfect age to absorb any and all information you're willing to share with them. My school is continually increasing in grades. This year we will be a K-8 school. My school is a Title I school in the inner city. Our school and district are seriously underfunded. Beginning of the year basic supply lists are often bought by the teachers who give them out. Our school offers free lunch and breakfast to all of the students. My students have experienced things in their young age that no one ever should: crime, incarceration of family members, broken homes, and more. Their resilience shines through when they are in school. It is a safe haven for them physically, mentally, and emotionally.

My Project

To have a carpet with 30 squares may not seem like a huge dream, but as a Kindergarten teacher, it is! For the last three years, I've had makeshift rugs, carpet squares, and more, but none have the same effect as one cohesive meeting area. In Kindergarten, we do a lot of whole group meetings, read alouds, science explorations, games, and even yoga. Fighting over spots, not knowing where to sit, and being too close to each other is a constant battle and loss of instructional time. If we could have a carpet where everyone has a designated spot, so much more learning could occur. With whole brain teaching, there is a lot of turning and talking to your partner. It's been confusing in the past because students are all over the place. With individual color coded squares, this will eliminate the confusion and increase learning.

There is no greater job than that of a teacher.

I love working in an urban setting. My kids are my everything. I do not have kids of my own and give my whole heart and soul to my classroom and my kids. Donations to this project would improve my classroom because it would start my school year off on the right foot. We all know how important routines and procedures are in the beginning, and an organized meeting area would be amazing! My kids are so appreciative of everything and I am too!
