My Students

Remember completing work (math, literacy, writing, science) that you were truly proud of, and telling the teacher you were done? What if this amazing feeling was followed by a look of panic on your teacher's face because she wasn't able to see it and missed your smart thinking?

My students attend a historical school where funds for technology are minimal.

My students are diverse in cultures, as well as learning styles. Behavior management is very much linked to engaging hands-on activities. My kindergartners include General Education, Special Education, and English Language Learners (ELL). All students learn better when given tactile hands-on materials. Technology allows me to extend those experiences with activities and challenges. As a Kindergarten Team we have worked hard to incorporate blended learning on a daily basis in all areas of development (reading, writing, math, science and social skills) and this project is an extension of that work.

My Project

This wireless HP printer and ink cartridges will allow my students to screen shot their work (from an iPad) and print it immediately to share with peers, teachers and parents. It will be set up so that students who are using an iPad during whole group instruction, small group instruction or during independent stations can print and retrieve their work (independently) without an adult having to leave the classroom and enter a copy code to retrieve it. Students daily use iPads to engage in differentiated instruction in reading, writing, math and science. During writing students would be able to print out their stories and have hard copies for peer editing. During math students would be able to print a completed math problem and share with their peers or teacher how they solved the problem. During reading students would be able to print word work, mental images from a story read or predictions of what might happen next in a story. During science students would be able to print their science phenomenon.

Donations towards this project will improve the ownership that students are taking in regards to their work as they will be responsible for sharing how technology is impacting their learning with others.

The school-to-home connection with be positively impacted as parents will be able to see first hand the high level of work that students are completing on an iPad and how instruction is differentiated to their child's individual level. Most importantly, students will instantly have their work.
