My Students

I teach an Integrated Kindergarten Classroom with 5 children on IEPs and 12 typically developing children. In my classroom, we celebrate our strengths and our challenges together. We do this through acknowledging our needs and working on them together. Our one classroom rule is: Be Brave!

I started my teaching career in a developmental preschool with 8 children on IEPs and 4 typically developing children.

I stayed in preschool for 2 years and then moved to teaching a self-contained behavior kindergarten program. Three years later, I am now teaching an Integrated Kindergarten Classroom. I believe strongly in early intervention as I have seen many students exit special education services because of early intervention. I have had a lot of training in behavior management and positive behavior supports, but not as much training on working with children with Autism. I continue to get more students with Autism as well as students who are learning English as a Second Language. Both require different strategies to access instruction. I believe strongly in the integrated and inclusion model, but feel it is only successful with the right supports and training.

My Project

I would like to attend this conference so I am able to add to my tool box of strategies and increase my knowledge of different modes of learning to make sure I am delivering instruction for all of my students to access. I am especially interested in the sessions with content around ELL strategies, strategies for active learners, guiding and supporting children with Autism and Aspergers Syndromes and differentiating instruction. Gaining this knowledge will increase my ability to create instruction for all of my students to access and make progress towards grade level expectations. I have not found any other conference where such a wide variety of courses are provided. The students who are placed in my classroom come with many different eligibility categories, and I would like to attend this conference so I can deliver quality and specially designed instruction to all of my students. I feel I need to attend this conference to attain this.

After attending this conference, I will be able to enhance my instruction so I can meet the needs of all the learning styles of the students in my classroom.

Attending this conference will give me access to accredited instructors, access to professional development I can cater to my needs as a teacher, the ability to receive professional development in a wide variety of areas all in one place and the insight of what instruction looks like across the country in Kindergarten.
