My Students

Do you remember story time? For some, it was a highlight of the school day. Listening to the story is great but we must not forget the visual and kinesthetic learners. Help us improve the reading comprehension skills of my students.

I teach the most imaginative, vibrant, and active 5 and 6-year-old kindergarteners.

Unfortunately, these students live in a high-poverty location. As a result, over 95% of my students have limited resources and/or limited exposure to materials that would benefit them academically. Nevertheless, my students have a passion for learning and doing so in an engaging way. Some learn by listening. Others learn through visual aids. There are others who learn through movement and/or manipulation of objects. Since students learn in various modalities, they should be taught in their preferred learning styles, and reading instruction should be no different.

My Project

Your donation will allow our students to maximize story-time each day. Our auditory learners will benefit from audio books played on a CD player. The visual learners will find puppets and richly illustrated books most effective. Kinesthetic learners will value felt characters and scenery being manipulated as the stories unfold. All students, regardless of the multiple intelligence he/she possess, will love story-time all the more because aids will be utilized to make their learning experience enjoyable.

Reading is fundamental.

It is the key to the entire academic process. Literacy, however, should not be a bore. There should be accommodations for each student's learning style. Reading is both fun and mental. Learning to read is truly educational but it can be entertaining as well. Help me make a difference in reading instruction in my kindergarten classroom. I believe if the foundation is laid properly at this crucial stage of childhood development, they will become life-long learners.
