My Students
My students have blossomed and grown so much since the start of school in August. It is truly amazing to see how far they have come! I look forward to being able to see how much more they grow by the end of the year. I have twenty-one students in my class, who come from various backgrounds and situations. Each of them are so eager to learn and to be loved. My goal is to make each one of them successful this year, so they can have a firm foundation to be lifelong learners.
My Project
As a first year teacher, my resources have been very limited this year. Math manipulatives are so essential to kindergartners, so they can build strong number sense skills! Right now, we are using what little math manipulatives we have, but we are in need of more! I want my students to become confident with math, and to do that, they need hands-on materials. I have seen how a variety of math manipulatives encourages students to solve problems on their own and encourages them keep trying, until they have succeeded.
The specific materials I have chosen, will help my students to build a strong number sense foundation, using the unifix cubes, number line, counters, and ten frames.
In addition to number sense, my students will be able to use these same materials when we move onto adding and subtracting. These hands on tools are needed to help my students understand math at their own level. Tangrams help to build critical thinking skills, as they will be using the tangrams along with the tangrams puzzles. They will need to move and manipulate the pieces to solve the puzzle, causing them to try and try again.
My students would truly benefit from all of these manipulatives, so they can be lifelong mathematicians!
