Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My class of 23 diverse, urban kindergarten students live below the poverty line and are predominately English language learners who have not attended preschool. Most of them will be four years old when they begin kindergarten.

Last year, our district adopted a new math curriculum that relies heavily on games and manipulatives. Due to budget restrictions, we were only supplied with limited manipulatives. As the year went by, I kept a running list of the supplies that were still needed to implement the curriculum effectively.

Now I am ready to present this grant for the dice, sorting boards, dominoes, pattern block trays, money models, and counters that will make it possible for my kindergartners to meet and exceed both our state math standards and the demands of the rigorous new curriculum.

You can help my students demonstrate an understanding of concepts of number sense, algebra, geometry, probability and functions by supplying them with the hands on materials that kindergartners need to learn effectively.
