Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of my students live in high-poverty areas. Over 90% of the students in my class receive free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch. Over 90% of the students in my class are also second-language learners. Our school actively participates in a Gang Reduction and Intervention Program.

Despite these challenges, our students are bright, motivated students who are eager to learn!

COVID-19 and the global pandemic negatively affected many of our school families. Our littlest learners were not able to attend preschool and benefit from all of the wonderful activities and centers and friendships. To help augment my students' social-emotional learning I would like to develop and encourage role play and friendships utilizing Calico Critters' home and figurines. The animals make it engaging and safe for students to role-play and talk through conflict and challenges, act out and celebrate common family and school celebrations and work together to have fun!
