Kinder Joy

My Project

As the world speeds up, we as educators of young children, need to continue to find ways to stimulate Kindergarteners in engaging, playful, fun and safe ways. With the increase of technology in and out of schools, it is extra important to have play based and engaging activities in schools. Children spend so much time listening to language and watching screens, but we need to provide more opportunities for them to produce their own language and develop their own creative ideas. In small children, at school, this is done beautiful through play. In play, children create, talk and share. They have to problem solve how to play together and have to express their own ideas. This is a skill that is much easier to practice when engaging in joy and play.

Fun hands on, play dough, putty, magnetic toys, smelly markers, feelings based playful toys encourage children to get off of screens and to engage with eachother.

Children love to play and creat and explore together. When they do this, they get to practice engaging with one another, learning from one another. They develop language which is especially important as our students are learning in both English and Spanish.

It is our hope that play will build joy and community as they share their learning and creative ideas. They will enjoy outdoor time in the cold of Wisconsin with warm feet while exploring and playing outside in warm wool socks. It is truly a gift to be able to work with 60 bilingual Spanish and English learners as they begin their adventures of growth, playing, and being part of a bigger learning community in our classroom every year.
