My Project
My kindergarten students are enthusiastic and curious. They try hard at everything we do---work and play!
I have requested many items to help my students become confident and successful early readers.
The books and activities are aligned with the Science of Reading process of teaching reading where students use their phonics skills to read words. The decodable books and hands-on games will help my students practice their new skills.
I plan to use the decodable books in small guided groups and for their independent book bags. Students will use the hands-on activities and games during literacy centers and with me in small group.
Oral language development in children is one of the early predictors of later reading success. Felt board materials and kitchen set supplies will help develop the oral language of my students. They can joyfully practice conversation and vocabulary with fun, hands-on materials.
Kindergarten children learn through play. Many of my students enter school with limited oral language experiences. This project will help me create a classroom where literacy skills and playful oral language experiences will be part of the daily routine.
