This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My transitional kindergarten students are just turning 5. For many of them, this is their first experience in a school setting. Some of the students have special learning needs, and some are learning English for the first time. The majority of their families live below the poverty line, and rely on our free meal plan for their child's breakfast and lunch.

Our school is a high poverty, Title I school, with high expectations for all.

The students work very hard at their studies and strive to do their best in all areas.

My Project

My students frequently miss school because of illness, due to poor nutrition, inconsistent sanitary practices and the unavailability of certain sanitary items. We can provide them with academics, but what good is that if they are missing school due to illness?

Help me provide my students with healthier bodies by providing hygene items such as soap, paper towels, baby wipes, and other items.

At age 5, most children are still learning to use tissue rather than their hands or clothing to wipe their noses. They still need frequent reminders to wash their hands after visiting the bathroom or after playing with shared toys. A box of tissues, paper towels, or baby wipes might not seem like much, but these items can mean healthier bodies for my young learners. Band-aids will keep boo-boos on fingers and other parts of the body clean, and will discourage infections. Drinking water, rather than soda, will improve health and lessen sugar intake. These requested items are essential for my students' health and well being. Your donation will help a wonderful group of children stay healthy, increasing school attendance and academic achievement!
