it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I taught Kinder many years ago, but after eight years of teaching in 3rd and 5th grade, I'm going back to teach Kindergarten! I work at a Title I school where all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Most of our Kindergarteners come to our school without any experience of being outside of the household or in the care of a family member, so the schooling atmosphere is a brand new experience for them! This can be scary for young children!
Funding this project would mean that I can provide a classroom book nook area where my students can sit to look at books, and later read on their own!
Picture books are of the utmost importance for children in Kindergarten! For young children who are in the early stages of developing their reading skills, picture books offer a way for them to use their imaginations and make connections using their senses. Picture books can also help students to use some of their early comprehension and literacy skills like sequencing. Many of the books that I chose are "I Can Read Level 1" readers, which means that as students learn their sight words and begin to decode words, they can begin reading on their own! Getting this project funded means that I will be able to add new books to my classroom book nook for my students to choose from.
