My Students
My students are the epitome of triumph and resilience. With poverty and gun violence plaguing our community, students still enter the building everyday eager to learn and make a positive impact on our school. Students ask many questions about math and science and draw real world connections to their life experiences.
I want to continue to foster my students' inquisitiveness and excitement by allowing them to work collaboratively to solve performance tasks.
Performance tasks increase the rigor of our classroom by allowing students to think critically and creatively, work collaboratively and communicate effectively.
My Project
After becoming tired of waiting for a monarch butterfly to arrive and lay an egg in one of our milkweed plants, the students decided to find the root cause of the problem. They thought it would be cool to keep photographs with the camera and videos with the camcorder of their trials and errors as evidence. They want to take their findings and create a documentary. The computer will be used for the students to edit the documentary before they publish it.
They plan on capturing special moments and sharing with the world in print and video, which will be edited on the laptop computer.
Their dream is that they will find a solution to our monarch problem. By being able to share with others, they may be able to save all of the endangered butterflies in the world, in hopes of stopping them from becoming extinct. This project will provide so many learning opportunities for the students. It will help them improve their communication skills as they speak in front of the camera. They will get better at working together and assigning responsibilities. They will have to carefully choose the words that perfectly describe their pictures.
Your donation will not only finance a cool project, but it will change the lives of these special kids.
The students will learn to come together as one to fight for a good cause. Regardless of their ages, they will learn the importance of putting an idea into action. Regardless of the obstacles, they will learn to try and not give up, even if it seems impossible. Most importantly, they will know that they are special and can make a difference to change the world!
