Did you ever curl up with a good book in a really comfortable spot? It makes reading so much more enjoyable when you feel totally at ease. My students really need a new rug to update our historic classroom and become better readers.
We are in a New York City public school where budgets are very tight!
I have 20 very bright first grade students who are eager to learn. They come from diverse backgrounds and cultures. They are excited about learning to read, but their favorite subject is Math! We gather on the rug for every lesson, and sometimes do activities there.
My Project
My students need a new rug for our meeting area, and storage bins to start the new school year. These resources will help my students become more comfortable while they learn. They will not have to worry about sitting on a stained and dirty rug that is years old! They will have the alphabet on their new rug as an added tool for learning to read. The bins will help to organize our math materials, so that we can easily access them, and put them away. It will really help to make our classroom shine!
This project is so important to me because I have very high expectations for my students.
I want them all to have a happy, and meaningful learning experience in first grade and I know that these materials will help me to achieve that goal!
