Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in our Exceptional Student Services classroom have many gifts and talents to share. They are also challenged with disabilities. They come from diverse backgrounds, have learning disabilities, developmental delays, physical disabilities, and emotional challenges.
Our exceptional students have unique qualities that may flourish with access to better 21st century technology.
Many of these students cannot access technology independently or don't have access except at school, and need much more practice with the basics than in a traditional classroom. Kindergarten through 5th grade can all use a boost.
We focus on each students' potential and growth that they can achieve in general education classroom and in the small groups they attend with us. Two teachers and two paraprofessionals work as a team with classroom teachers to provide support and give students a boost in the academic world and for their future.
My Project
Touch screens are a need in our classroom. Our students have difficulty manipulating mouses or mouse pads independently.
District transition from using tablets/IPads to Chromebooks has made it difficult for our special needs students.
Going from touchscreens to non-touch has been a greater unique challenge than expected.
District and state testing for students is computer based. The Chromebook Flip would allow our students independence with selecting their answers when it is in touch mode. Reading and math growth checks in our digital learning curriculum would also be done without a teacher assisting to click answers.
We are asking for our second convertible Chromebook.
