Donors who have been with me for the past year or so know that my kids love to create with 3D pens. It is one project that I do that I never have to worry too much about classroom discipline. They are focused and excited every time I bring out the pens. They have now consumed all the filament and I need to replace pens that are old in order to have a full classroom set with a couple extra just in case. For those who are new to my DonorsChoose page, let me tell you about the wonders of this art form.
When kids do art, so often it is two dimensional, they work on a flat surface, but the 3D pen takes their work to a whole new level.
All art starts with paper and pencil even if only in the planning stage. When students begin working in three dimensions, however, it can totally change their perception of what is possible and what they are capable of creating. The first time or two they use a 3D pen, they are simply experimenting with the medium. But before long they are watching their forms merge into something they only had in their imagination. It lets them be silly or super serious. I think the biggest draw for them with 3D pens is the freedom it gives to create in a way that most other mediums just can't compete with.
Thank you so much for helping us to keep this excitement alive in them. With a variety of colors and pens that don't let them down, they will keep the creativity flowing.
