Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Kid made decorations! My students make all the decorations in our classroom. We have no commercially made decorations through the room. They make everything from the schedule to the library labels. We need the supplies so we can continue to make our classroom beautiful.
My 4th graders attend a school in New York where everyone gets free breakfast and lunch.
For many of them, school is the only safe place they have because their homes and neighborhood is full of violence from gangs. Many of them are being raised by one parent or extended family members. School is a place where they are able to escape the reality of their lives.
My Project
Having these supplies will allow my class to continue to decorate our classroom. Art is a way that my students are able to escape from the reality of their lives and provides a way for the students to express themselves. Art is not an option for many at home and this year, my students do not have the opportunity to go to the Art teacher so this is one way for me to incorporate art into the classroom. We also do artistic representation of the stories we read, and illustrate the stories we write.
My project is important because my students are not able to bring in supplies to the classroom.
Having supplies will allow my students and I to continue to make our classroom ours. This allows the students to call a space their own because they do not have that option at home.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
