Kid-Inspired: Lacrosse Gear for Scholar Athletes

My students need 3 sets of lacrosse arm pads, 3 pairs of lacrosse gloves, and 1 Stallion 7000 lacrosse stick.

My Students

I have the most spunky, creative students this side of the Mississippi, and there is never a dull moment in my classroom. We do a lot of learning and have a lot of fun too. My students always seem to exceed my expectations.

Many of my students are scholar athletes who are role models on and off the field.

They take their studies and their athletic performances seriously. Their desire to help others become more active and be involved in team sports is what inspired this project.

My Project

The idea for this project came from four lacrosse players who are in my English class. I am not the lacrosse coach, but I am an advocate for my scholar athletes and agreed to help them. Our district’s coaches hold our athletes to a high standard. Sports can be a great motivator for students because if a student is failing a class, he cannot participate in athletics or extracurricular activities that week. Students who are not “making the grade” are required to stay after school to work with their teachers and improve their grades. The four lacrosse players who inspired this project explained to me how expensive lacrosse gear is and that many of their teammates have to use hand-me-down equipment.

When they told me that some boys don’t even try out for lacrosse because they cannot afford the required gear, I knew that this was an ideal project for Donorschoose.

By donating to this project these students will have access to gloves, arm pads, and sticks allowing more students the opportunity to join a team sport and live a healthy lifestyle. The players are always striving to be their best. They run before school starts in the morning and then attend practices after school. My school's Varsity and JV lacrosse players encourage everyone to try out for the team. They push each other to be the best on and off the field.
