This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My Transitional Kindergarten students are very interested in helping me keep our outdoor class area tidy. They always want to help because there is always something to explore or discover bugs, leaf designs, or inspiration for play. However, my tools are grown-up sized and my little ones struggle with using them. I would like to put together a kid-friendly kit for my students to use.

The mini brooms, dustpans, grabbers and buckets are used to scoop up leaves, dirt and trash that constantly plague our outdoor space, while the gardening tools encourage students to get down in the dirt, pull weeds and dig for fun things like bugs, roots, and tunnels.

When 5 year olds discover things on their own, they are much more inclined to ask questions and have a better understanding of the world around them.

Just today, a student was collecting leaves, sticking them on a stick and announced that she has discovered a new business: "Bug Food on a Stick". Can't wait for more discoveries!
