My students need keyboards to connect to the iPads we use twice a week. These keyboards will allow students to practice their keyboarding skills to help them prepare for the SBAC testing in third grade!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The second-grade students at our school come from many different backgrounds and cultures. Our students speak different languages including Spanish, Russian, Armenian, Farsi, and many more.
Students love learning through hands-on lessons and experiences!
Our students are happy to be at school and love learning new things. Second graders are enthusiastic learners who love hands-on experiences and lessons. Our students enjoy reading about new topics and making connections to their own lives.
We have the opportunity to use iPads two times a week. We utilize this tool for reading and math activities and games that prompt student engagement and learning. IPads are a wonderful resource!
My Project
Our school is lucky to have a class set of iPads that are shared with the whole campus in addition to our computer lab. Our second-grade class gets to use the iPads two times a week to work on reading and math fluency through games and online lessons. We would love to add keyboards to the iPads to further increase student's computer skills. Another big advantage to having keyboards for the iPads would be the practice that students need in order to be successful on their SBAC testing that will take place in third grade. Since the test is online students need to know how to type responses to literature they read as well as type out their thinking on math performance tasks. Starting to practice these keyboard skills is a big part of second grade and having our own set of keyboards would greatly benefit our students!
IPads are a wonderful resource and with these keyboards, students would be able to start preparing for the testing that will take place in third grade.
