My Students
We are an urban school with a large shelter (homeless and/or domestic violence) population. We have a very high mobility rate and rarely have a student who has gone to our building for grades kindergarten through seventh. This means we have students with a massive range of skills and experiences.
As a staff, we know that our students can succeed if given the opportunity.
We provide a wide range of services including food, clothing, and school supplies, pantry, health care services, and tutoring, both during and after school.
My Project
We do many activities where we need to be very interactive. By interactive, I mean that we have our notebooks organized into sections to help keep our thinking and learning in an orderly way so we can easily access any information we need. By doing this, it takes a lot of materials to keep us organized.
"Tell me and I forget, Teach me and I remember, Involve me and I learn." Benjamin Franklin
We keep all our learning in our notebooks. It provides a central place for us to look at what we were thinking and learning throughout the year. By putting their learning into their interactive notebooks, that is how my students are being involved and learning.
We also need a central place to keep our materials for our interactive notebooks organized. Right now, they are in separate containers in various places around the room, which makes it hard for us to always find what we need. By having a rolling cart and extra Post It tabs to use to separate the sections in our notebooks, it will make it easier to find what we need instead of searching around the room.
We are also learning organizational skills through the AVID program by keeping everything in one place and making sure we put things back where they belong, which will help us when we go on to higher education.
