Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds. We have over 80% of our schools population receiving free or reduced lunch. Our school is a public charter school that has been around for over 15 years. I was actually a product of this school and have since returned as a teacher and love every minute of it, especially being able to teach some of my past teacher's own children. The diversity of our children is not only across cultures but also diverse in their learning skills.
The students all learn a different way and at a different pace.
I make sure to target their different learning styles so each student can take home as much of the curriculum as possible. To achieve this students are placed into different groups with varying learning styles so that they can feed off of each other. This helps them push each other as a group, to new heights. It's incredible to see how the students help push each other everyday on all kinds of different topics. Seeing this and seeing the progress that my students make throughout the year is truly the most amazing feeling.
My Project
As stated before, many of my students don't have access to technology at home so they can't complete their iReady assignments which has been proven to increase their math and literacy skills when completed properly. My classroom doesn't have enough computers for these children so having access to these iPads will make it easier for those students to get these tasks completed during small group instructional time. This will give the students that extra time and help increase thier scores and grades on state testing as well as classroom testing. Any opportunity these children have gives them an advantage in their future.
