Second graders are filled with questions that crave answers.
Our school does not have a computer lab so students are unable to utilize such a valuable resource during school hours and many do not have computers at home. Therefore, my students are not getting equivalent access to information that others have at their fingertips. These inquisitive children need and deserve this opportunity. My students come from diverse cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds, their technological needs are the same.
My Project
My class needs access to a computer so they can take individualized assessments and lessons in our current math program, do research and utilize various web resources such as; dictionary.com, ask.com or even Google.com.
As far as whole group instruction, the laptop computer will be used to show visual learning lessons in our math program and allow them to take individualized math assessments. Then my students can access activities according to their needs. I can model how to find research sites. During independent work time students will be able to listen to our weekly story online and do interactive games related to our vocabulary and comprehension skills. They can type up their published copies of their writing assignments. The possibilities are endless!
They need to experience what a computer can offer them and to become familiar with the use of one, the components and what they do, as well as the endless amount of information they can gather on the Internet.
Students in this day and age need to be technologically literate and this Laptop Computer will get them closer to this goal.
