My students need a subscription to Junior Scholastic magazine to help with their understanding of current events.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Peters's classroom raised $200
This project is fully funded
My Students
My students love talking about current events and they are always trying to connect what we learn in class to the world around them.
The subject I teach is world history.
World history can be difficult at times for students because they have a hard time relating to the material. They do not see how it relates to their lives today. I am always trying to tie in current world issues with the regions that we study which helps to bring the history alive. My school is also located in one of the most ethnically diverse urban areas in the world. As a result, students come from all over. This makes classroom discussions very lively and spirited. Some of the best days we have in class are when students share about where they are from, and make connections between the material and their home countries.
My Project
We will use these magazines to help bridge the gap between the ancient world and the modern world. Junior Scholastic is a current events news magazine that features engaging nonfiction about national and international news, U.S. and world history, debates, geography, and more. These magazines will be used in class to learn about what is happening in the part of the world today that we are studying the history of in class. The magazines will also be used for a group of students that want to come up during lunch to form a "Current Events Club." We will be able to use these engaging articles as jumping off points. And lastly, the issues will be available to students to read during independent reading time as another non-fiction source to choose from.
With this project, students will be able to engage in conversations around current events.
This project will help students learn about the world around them and will help to create global minded citizens.
